NES-Style LSD Dream Emulator Inspired Game
I completed this game's demo in November 2024.
Gameplay Notes
There's been reports of an anomaly patrolling an abandoned school. Those sent to gather details have yet to return.
Rumour has it the anomaly is bound to a few interdimensional items. Supposedly, the longer you spend in the building, the greater likelihood these items surface within our own dimension.
Problem is, the more these items appear, the more intensive the activity becomes. Collapsing sounds have been frequently documented, yet the building's external walls never seem to change.
If you can successfully retrieve all the items, we can eradicate them forever. Though, I wouldn't imagine the anomaly will be pleased whilst you hold them...
What is this game?
"Dream" is a 3D exploration-horror game. It's mainly based on LSD Dream Emulator.
Additional Notes
The player mechanics in this game are identical to those within LSD Dream Emulator. Whilst that game's movement was likely built around hardware limitations of the time, I feel the awkward controls are perfect for a horror game. It takes valuable time to successfully navigate through tight geometry, and it's totally impossible to quickly check behind yourself.
Very few elements of the game are 'scripted' scares. The anomaly entity exists at all points of the game, and generally slowly wanders around the school with semi-random behaviour, performing different decisions on the fly dependant on it's current distance to the player. I may record another playthrough sometime, as the above video doesn't feature most scares.
The map's layout is based on a Minecraft recreation build a friend made, being 'Pakefield Middle School' in England. The school was demolished in ~2011, and strangely, there's almost no information regarding its existence online. The textures are Dokucraft (Beta 1.7.3).
